Με το παρατσούκλι που του έδωσε ο Nam June Paik, “Ο ταξιτζής του Fluxus”, ο Jeffrey Perkins παραμένει ένας καλλιτέχνης και κινηματογραφιστής που εργάστηκε σχετικά στην αμφισημία για πάνω από τέσσερις δεκαετίες, έχοντας συνεργαστεί τη δεκαετία του 1960 με καλλιτέχνες του κινήματος Fluxus, όπως οι George Maciunas, Yoko Ono, and Alison Knowles. Μέχρι πρόσφατα ήταν γνωστός για τις performances του με προβολές διάθλασης φωτός - light projection performances- και τις Ταινίες για τον Τυφλό - Movies for the Blind (βασισμένες σε ηχογραφημένες συνεντεύξεις από τους επιβάτες του στο ταξί). Πρόσφατα ολοκλήρωσε το GEORGE ένα ντοκιμαντέρ πορτρέτο για τον George Maciunas, τον ιδρυτή του κινήματος Fluxus. Έχει επίσης σκηνοθετήσει και έχει κάνει την παραγωγή την ταινίας The Painter Sam Francis, ένα εγχείρημα που από μόνο του διήρκεσε 40 χρόνια για να γίνει. Συνεχίζει να κάνει performance, πιο πρόσφατα στο X-Initiative και Daniel Reich Gallery στη Νέα Υόρκη, στο Front Desk Apparatus στη Νέα Υόρκη και στο ίδρυμα Emily Harvey Foundation. Η Ύλη έχει την χαρά να φιλοξενήσει και να οργανώσει δύο ημέρες συζητήσεων και προβολών.

Nicknamed “the Fluxus cabdriver” by Nam June Paik, Jeffrey Perkins is an artist and filmmaker who has worked in relative obscurity for over four decades, having collaborated in the 1960s with Fluxus artists including George Maciunas, Yoko Ono, and Alison Knowles. Until recently he was best known for his light projection performances and his Movies for the Blind (based on sound recordings of interviews with passengers in his cab). He recently completed GEORGE a documentary portrait of George Maciunas the founder of Fluxus. He has also directed and produced the film The Painter Sam Francis, an endeavor that was itself 40 years in the making. He continues to do performance art, most recently at X-Initiative and Daniel Reich Gallery in New York, at Front Desk Apparatus in New York and Emily Harvey Foundation. HYLE is very happy to host Jeffrey and organize together the two days of conversations and screenings.
